Hunt down a speedrunner as a towering monstrosity using borrowed sight and sound.

A speedrunner has infiltrated your randomly generated, ugly and overdone (yet somewhat charming) PSX horror style maze. You must eliminate him before he can escape and make fun of your lumbering walk cycle.

Controls
wasd - move
mouse - look around
tab - switch between perspectives
q - pause

(I recommend playing with headphones)

This is basically a reverse-survival horror game. Rounds are around 4-5 minutes as long as the speedrunner doesn't get caught on a NavMesh boundary. Some gameplay tips are at the bottom if you want to be more prepared going into it.

Created for the GMTK 2023 Game Jam based on the theme Roles Reversed. With the abundance of the aforementioned PSX style horror games recently, I wanted to do a twist on that from the monster's (literal) perspective. I mostly used this project just to learn more about NavMesh and procedural generation, so some sacrifices had to be made and certain areas are underdeveloped. Not my best work but I think it's funny at least :)

TECHNICAL ISSUES:
- NavMesh agent sometimes breaks when restarting the game. Refresh the webpage to fix this.

- The restart button doesn't always work. Refresh the page to start again.

TIPS:
- The speedrunner has spatial audio. Move your mouse around while he talks to get a sense of direction for where he is.
- There are 3 keys in the other corners of the map that he goes after, before heading to the door in the corner that you spawn at. So technically you could just wait there if you really need a win.
- Try to learn which color / texture each section actually is from your grayscale POV by using the above tips and switching to the speedrunner's POV.
